About ICQ, qip, miranda, &RQ, Trillian.
ICQICQ is an instant messaging computer program, owned by Time Warner's AOL subsidiary. The first version of the program was released in November 1996. The name ICQ is a play (an oronym) on the phrase "I seek you".ICQ features include sending text messages with offline support, multi-user chats, Free daily-limited SMS sending, resumable file transfers, greeting cards and multiplayer games. Other features included a searchable user directory and POP3 email support. ICQ users are identified by numbers called UIN, distributed in sequential order. New users are now given a UIN of well over 300,000,000, and low numbers (six or five digits) have been auctioned on eBay by users who signed up in ICQ's early days. Since 2000, ICQ and AIM users are able to add each other to their contact list without the need of any external clients. QIPQuiet Internet Pager (QIP) is an alternative instant messaging client based on OSCAR protocol. It's a closed source freeware developed by a russian developer.QIP is lighweight, fast and skinable with userfriendly features. Miranda imMiranda Instant Messenger is a minimalist, open source multiprotocol instant messaging application, designed for Microsoft Windows.Miranda is free software distributed under GNU General Public License Miranda provides a basic client framework and an advanced plugin architecture. Support for various IM protocols and additional features is implemented through optional plugins, some of which come bundled with Miranda by default while the rest can be downloaded from the Miranda IM website. This keeps Miranda lean and fast, since unused protocols can be removed. There are currently over 500 plugins for Miranda. Documentation and plugin how-tos are available in the Miranda IM. Through a little effort, Miranda can be customized to look and function to each individual's needs due to its flexible design. It is easy to manage hundreds of IM buddies on an assortment of IM networks with convenient built-in features such as contact renaming as well as plugins such as QuickSearch which simplify organization of contacts. All instant messages are stored to file and can easily be recovered at a later time, or deleted automatically or manually with either the DB Tool or the History Sweeper plugin. Miranda can be configured to display photos or contact details when the mouse cursor is placed over a contact in the contact list. Miranda is free of advertising and free of charge. Miranda is worked on both by the core developers and by lots of plugin developers. With a few plugins, Miranda can fit in a single 1.44 MB floppy disk or load directly from a USB flash drive with several plugins and even a large database. Due to its flexible nature, Miranda holds a greater appeal to people who like to tweak their software. While no special skills are required in order to use it, more advanced users may wish to dig deeper into the Miranda IM database files with one of the available database plugins.
Trillian (instant messaging client)Trillian is a multiprotocol instant messaging application for Windows created by Cerulean Studios that can connect to multiple IM services, such as AIM, ICQ, Windows Live Messenger, Yahoo! Messenger, IRC, Novell GroupWise Messenger, Bonjour, Jabber, and Skype networks (the latter four with Trillian Pro which allows for additional plugins).There are currently two types of Trillian available, the original and free Trillian Basic 3 and the commercial Trillian Pro 3. Initially released July 1, 2000 as a freeware IRC client, the first commercial version (Trillian Pro 1.0) was published on September 10, 2002. An upcoming product, called Trillian Astra, was announced recently by Cerulean Studios in their official blog.
Easy messageEasy Message is an instant messaging application that supports MSN Messenger, AOL Instant Messenger, Yahoo Messenger, and ICQ. Although it does not have all of the features of other messengers it is known for its extremely small size and low use of system resources.Originally developed by Ryan Dewsbury it was purchased by 180solutions in February 2005 and used for their Zango Messenger spyware application.
